Transforming Idle Land into a Sustainable Food Source at PT Socfindo Bangun Bandar

PT Socfin Indonesia (Socfindo) Bangun Bandar Estate continues to promote productive land use through collaboration with the Socfindo Ladies and Staff Wives Association (KISS), village authorities, and surrounding communities. Land that was previously underutilized has been transformed into horticultural gardens and family medicinal plant (TOGA) plots, providing direct benefits to local residents.

In Division III Cemara, Bah Kerapuh Village, KISS Bangun Bandar members and community residents cultivate chili peppers, lettuce, papaya, and various other beneficial crops. This initiative builds upon similar programs previously established in Division I, Martebing Village, and Division IV, Tanjung Maria Village, where melons, watermelons, water spinach, and a variety of vegetables are grown.

The initiative has already delivered positive results, marked by the first harvests of melons and water spinach, demonstrating the successful transformation of idle land into productive agricultural areas. Beyond providing fresh produce for household consumption, these gardens contribute to a greener environment, strengthen local food security, and create opportunities for additional economic benefits for community members and employees’ families.

By leveraging local resources and fostering a spirit of collaboration, this initiative reflects PT Socfindo’s commitment to generating sustainable social and environmental impacts. It demonstrates how simple yet consistent land management practices can create meaningful benefits for communities, the environment, and long-term sustainability.
